Raiffeisen Informatik Technical Services (RI-S) is a field service provider for the Raiffeisenbanken Group, the RBI Group and UNIQA (insurance). As one of the market leaders, RI-S has over 80 employees and an extensive network of support offices throughout Austria.
The company is constantly optimizing the relationship between quality, security and costs. Processes are reviewed in order to find new potential for improvement and to learn from mistakes. When banks are focused on cost savings and regulatory compliance, innovation is mostly focused on customers instead of employees. Yet at RI-S, the same approach to innovation is also applied to employee training, where traditional learning methods are being enhanced using more effective tools like AR & VR.
Challenges
Before working with Warp VR, RI-S faced several challenges:
While looking for a solution that was easy to use, RI-S came across an article about how Erste Bank uses VR training, and decided to try Warp VR.
They started with a test project with only two PICO 2 4K headsets (replaced later on by Meta Quest 2 devices). In cooperation with the Raiffeisen-Holding NÖ-Wien, a bank robbery was simulated and filmed in the Raiffeisen district bank Kagran for training purposes. Only the video recording part was outsourced to a media agency.
Users were offered a realistic first-person scenario at the counter with different storylines. The decisions made by the bank employees show the immediate effects on a possible bank robbery. This approach resulted in a positive impact on memory and attracted greater attention.
Users could participate in a VR class or elsewhere on a tablet or laptop. VR screencasting was used to explain the concept and provide input for review sessions afterwards.
RI-S liked how easy it was to create VR scenarios and distribute these across ## with support for multiple devices and sign-in options.
To summarize:
The bank robbery scenario is currently used by first-line employees of local bank branches, as part of an onboarding program around security, compliance, etc. Further promotion of VR training is done via internal customer events and publications like Raiffeisen Zeitung. RI-S also plans to work with RBI to create new scenarios for recruiting & onboarding, and to integrate VR training in a new corporate learning platform RBI is preparing.
